PRINCESS ANNE, MD. — Hawk athletes Dillon Simon (Pottersville, Dominica) and Gayon Evans (Clarendon, Jamaica) were awarded the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) players of the week, the conference announced today. The duo were also named as two of the three UMES athletes of the week this past Monday.

Simon, a junior, finished first in the shot put and second in the discus at the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University. His mark of 17.88 meters in the shot put beat the facility and meets record, while his discus toss of 54.95 meters beat his own school record set in 2013. Dillon is now the holder of three records between indoor and outdoor track.

Evans, a senior, earned two new facility and meet records at the VertKlasse Meeting. Her time of 11.53 seconds in the 100m dash beat a five year record, and her time of 23.31 seconds beat a record that dates back to 2011. Gayon also possess two school records in indoor track.

Both athletes will head to the Don Webster Invitational in Baltimore and the Mason Spring Invitational in Virginia this coming weekend.
