NORFOLK, Va. — Two more Hawks on the track team took home MEAC honors, which were announced by the conference earlier today. Both players can add this honor to an already long list of awards and achievements this season.

Freshman Jared Kerr (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) earned his first MEAC honor as Men’s Track Player of the Week with a strong individual performance and a strong assist in the relay race. Kerr finished first in the 400 meter hurdles at the Morgan Legacy this past Saturday with a time of 52.90 seconds. He also earned a time of 52.69 seconds in the previous meet, which qualified him to the World Junior Championships. In the 4x400 relay, Jared ran the third leg for the Hawks, who finished first with a time of 3:11.13.

Junior Dillon Simon (Pottersville, Dominica) earned his third MEAC honor for Men’s Field Player of the Week for his efforts in the shot put and discus at Morgan. In the shot put, Dillon finished second with a throw of 17.42 meters and in the discus, Simon reset his own school record in the event for the second time this year with a toss of 56.48 meters. The discus throw now ranks fifth among qualifiers for the IC4A championships, which will take place next month.

The men’s team finished first overall at the Morgan Legacy with 91.33 points, beating out 26 other teams. This weekend, Kerr, Simon and the rest of the track team are hoping to continue their top performances at the 120th Penn Relays in Philadelphia, which runs thru Saturday.
