Princess Anne, Md. -- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference released its outdoor track and field all-academic honorees Wednesday. Student-athletes in their sophomore, junior or senior seasons with a 3.0 or better grade point average are named to the list. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore had 12 of its student-athletes honored.

"I applaud our men's and women's outdoor track and field student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during the academic school year," said Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas.

Seven sophomores, four juniors and one senior made the list from UMES. George Chandler, Alonzo Jarmon, Denvil Ruan, Kenesha Abrams, Hana Jiraskova, Annis Mars and Shaquile Turner represented the sophomore class. The juniors to make the list were-Zavior Brown, Basil Melek, Andre Walsh and Emilie Ducados, while Cynthia Anais was the lone senior to represent the Hawks.

Many of the student-athletes participate in cross country in the fall, indoor track and field in the winter and outdoor track and field in the spring; all while maintaining their course loads and high GPAs.

UMES will compete in the MEAC Championships May 3-5 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Results and recap from the championships can be found on www.UMESHawks.com.
