GUION-FIRMIN, ANDRE WALSH NAMES PRMC UMES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Juniors Lenora Guion-Firmin (La Trinite, Martinique) and Andre Walsh (St. Catherine, Jamaica) have been named the PRMC UMES Athletes of the Week for the week of May 28. This is the fourth time that each student-athlete has been distinguished with the award this season. The pair was selected as male and female recipients on Jan. 22. The four selections are also the most of any Hawk athlete in 2012. Walsh advanced to the finals in two events at the NCAA Track & Field Championships held in Des Moines, Iowa. He qualified with a 50.46 time in the 400m hurdles. His finish in the event gave him a ranking of No. 14 heading into the finals. The St. Catherine, Jamaica product, joined three others on the 4x100m relay team to place third in their heat with a time of 39.71. The time proved to be a new school record as the team finished third in the heat and No. 21 overall. Guion-Firmin, who posted the fifth best time at USTFCCA east regional, ran a 52.20 time to end up in second-place in the 400m at the NCAA Track & Field Championships.
