PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – This week’s Hawk Talk edition features men’s tennis receiving NCAA honors and recent graduate Gayon Evans (Clarendon, Jamaica) being named UMES Athlete of the Week, and more.

Last week, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men’s tennis team was honored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for earning top scores in the classroom by receiving the NCAA Public Recognition Award.
UMES was among the 275 NCAA Division I institutions, including five Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schools, to place at least one team on the top APR list.

WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Last Monday (06/16), Evans was named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) Athlete of the Week for the ninth time this season. The Hotel & Restaurant Hospitality Management-major was the last UMES student-athlete competing in the 2013-14 season as she qualified for two events at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. (June 11-14).
On the same day (06/16), the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-America honors and Evans was acknowledged as she earned Honorable Mention after her performance at the NCAA Championships.
Evans wrapped up her career with a personal best in the 100-meter dash, posting an 11.47 time.
