KINGSTON, Jamaica — The UMES season may be over and summer may be upon us, but that will not stop one runner from continuing on in her career. Lady Hawks senior Gayon Evans (Clarendon, Jamaica), already a seasoned and experienced veteran of major tournament like the NCAA Championships, has qualified and is set to run in the 2014 Jamaica National Senior Trials.

The event will be held at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica beginning this Thursday and ending this Sunday and is sponsored by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).

Evans qualified for two events, both of which she ran at the NCAA Championships. Furthermore, those times were earned while she competed at UMES. The JAAA standard in the 100 meter dash is 11.70 seconds while the 200 meter dash has a standard time of 23.70 seconds. Evans blazed past both times with relative ease, ultimately finishing her senior season with an 11.47 run in the 100 meter dash at the NCAA Semifinals and a 23.08 second time in the MEAC Championships for the 200 meter.

Heats for the 100 meter dash will take place on Thursday with semifinals and finals taking place on Friday. Heat time is scheduled at 7:50 p.m. EDT with the following day’s semi-final and final going off at 8:15 and 10:15, respectively. The 200 meter dashes will take place on Saturday and Sunday, with the semi-finals at 9:25 p.m. on Saturday and the finals at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday.
