PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --The University of Maryland Eastern Shore opened its 2012 cross country season with its UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational. The Hawks' men's team finished first place, while the women took fifth. Zavior Brown had the Hawks' best finish taking second in a time of 17:15.

Brown's teammate Codjo Gbedo finished fourth in a time of 17:46, while Dennis Gonzales took seventh (19:56). UMES had four top 10 finishers with Alonzo Jarmon taking the ninth spot with his time of 20:21. Kraig Webb made a strong push to finish in a time of 22:34, while teammates Shaquille Turner and Andre Walsh registered times of 22:44 and 29:28, respectively. The men's team posted a total of 35 points.

Latitia Salley finished in the 11th spot for the women, marking a time of 21:19. Newcomer Taylor Folks had the second best finish in 23rd with her time of 24:59. Emilie Ducados, Jennell Wade and Latasha Moore finished with times of 26:25, 29:18 and 30:57, respectively.

The Hawks will travel to Dover, Delaware for its second meet of the season September 7 to compete in the Delaware State Invitational. The meet will begin at 4:30 PM.
