The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks cross-country teams competed this weekend as the women took part in the Salty Sea Dog Invitational, while the men participated in the Naval Invitational. Both competitions were hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. One the women's side, freshman Eva Slavikova was the Hawks top finisher as she placed 5th overall in the women's 6K run with a time of 23.25.05, less than 1:40 behind the top finisher. The fifth place finish for Slavikova ended a streak of two straight victories, as she won both the Towson Invitational and the Cappy Anderson Invitational over the previous two weekends. Fellow freshman Pavla Zavoralova finished in 43rd place with a time of 25:27.84. Deborah Meadows finished in 71st place with a time of 27:16.45, while Evelynn Mendoza and Kori Barrett finished 90th and 91st and Kathare Mundit finished in 97th place. The Women finished eighth overall out of a field of nine schools. On the men's side, senior Barnabas Togom was the Hawks top finisher as he placed 25th overall with a time of 26:23.72. Placing just behind Togom, Geoffrey Rutto placed 31st and Damion Drummond crossed the finish in 34th place.
Other top finishers for UMES were Frederick Keter in 53rd, Clayton James in 62nd, and Chris Havrilla in 71st place. Omar Fikri placed in 79th place, while Antonie Pugh and Gareth Burrowes placed 83rd and 84th.
As a team, the Hawks placed sixth out of eight teams with 170 points. |
