PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks could only muster a third place finish in the 2005 Cappy Anderson Invitational but the story was Janeth Chelangat who ran a blistering time of 19:14.54 to set a new course record. The previous record was held by Jackie Truncellito of Loyola University who ran it on September 4, 2004 in a time if 19:21.

Chelangat used the cool and cloudy conditions to set the record and was followed closely behind by Howard's Indira Garcia who would have also set a new record if it were not for Chelangat's time. Garcia was second with a time of 19.18.43. Her finish allowed Howard University to win the meet with just 22 total points. Ashley Vann (19:30.96), Amanda Stevenson (19:52.20), Tasha Harris (20:22.51) and Aisha Franklin (20:26.42) also did their part taking third, fourth, sixth and seventh places respectively.

The Bears of Morgan State were second in the race with 56 points as Nichelle Gibbs came home fifth with a time of 20:14.59 to lead the Bear pack. Trisha Laforce was also in the top ten in nith with a time of 20:55.29.

UMES, although getting a solid performance from Chelangat and Neda Khalili, who was eighth with a time of 20:27.02, could manage no other runners in the top 20. Kathare Mundit was 21st with a time of 23:33.30 and Marie Miller was 23rd with a time of 23:43.20. Also in the top 30 were Sherie Brown (26), Xiomara Okonkwo (27) and Sherita Harriott (30).
