College Park, Md. - Eva Slavikova did it again this weekend, winning her third race in four tries this season as she won the 6.3k course at the University of Maryland ACC Pre-Meet. She edged out Meghan Braffet of Maryland for the win. Slavikova made up for the lack of Hawks in the field as several men's competitors, including Barnabas Togom were unable to compete. The race was a reschedule after the Diamond State X-Country meet was unexpectedly cancelled. The following story is the official race recap from the Maryland Media Relations Office. Sophomore Peter Hess won the men's event, and Meghan Braffet took second place for the third straight meet to start the season, as both the men's and women's cross country squads took first place at today's ACC Pre-Meet. In all, eight Terps - five on the men's side, three on the women's -finished among the top six individuals in their respective events. In the day's first race, Meghan Braffet narrowly missed running down event-winner Eva Slavikova of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore to finish in second place with a 6.3K time of 25:53.48. Laurel Jefferson placed fourth overall and second on the team, coming in with a time of 24:51.58. Maryland runners came in sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth places for a total of six top-10 finishers. Katie Purcell posted her third consecutive top-10 finish to start the 2004 season, coming in sixth place with a time of 25:14.96. Danielle Siebert (7th place - 25:24.43), Shari Gorga (8th place - 25:50.36) and Cori Koch (9th place - 25:59.46) followed, as the Terps posted a team score of 27 points to defeat Clemson (48 points), Howard (78), Maryland-East Shore (104) and Coppin State (136). In the men's race, a trio of Terps, led by sophomore Peter Hess, were the first runners to cross the finish line. Hess (1st place - 25:49.12), Florent Groberg (2nd place - 26:28.02) and Adam Ambrus (3rd place - 26:28.96) finished 1-2-3, as five of the race's top six and eight of the top 11 were from Maryland. Matt Sanders (26:41.43) and Matt Adami (26:43.16) came in fifth and sixth place, respectively, with Natty Zola (9th place - 26:46.05) and Michael Porter (10th place - 26:53.03) also posting top-10 finishes.
