Virginia Beach, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawk Cross-Country team came home with a third place finish in the 5K race held at Mt. Trashmore near the campus of Norfolk State University (NSU).

Janeth Chelangat took a fourth place finish, behind Aurora Scott, a non-attached athlete in first place and two Norfolk State runner in third and fourth place. Chelangat finished the course in 19:10. Neda Khalili Came home in ninth place (20:25) as the only other Hawk in the top ten. Xiomara Okonkwo was 18th while Sherita Harriott and Rachel Midy came home 26th and 27th respectively.

The Lady Hawks scored 77 points, 20 behind the second place Longwood University, while the first place Lady Spartans of NSU scored 22 points. Hampton University was fourth with 77 points, but had a lower finisher in their lead runner while Virginia State was fifth with 117 points.

The UMES Women's Cross-Country Team will be in action next weekend at the University of Delaware.
