PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Senior Alfred Singoei (Nairobi, Kenya/Iowa State) won the men's individual title at the Delaware Invitational on October 14 at White Clay Creek State Park. Singoei covered the 8K course in 26:17.19 to earn his fourth first-place finish of the season. Solomon Kirongo (Nairobi, Kenya/Kipkabus) finished the race in 27:33.77 while Clayton James (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Kingston) crossed the line in 27:55.40. In the women's race, sophomore Betty Chumbe (Nairobi, Kenya/Egerton) took sixth overall in 14:43.76 while Janeth Chelangat (Nairobi, Kenya/Kipsigis) covered the 5K course in 18:53.18. The Fighting Hawks finished eighth in the team standing with 179 points while the Lady Hawks tallied 278 points for an 11th place finish. UMES is off for two weeks, next taking the course on Oct. 27 for the MEAC Championship.
