TOGOM AND SLAVIKOVA EARN TOP FINISHES AT THE DELAWARE INVITATIONAL

NEWARK, DE - Barnabas Togom and Eva Slavikova each finished first in the men's and women's cross country invitational held at the University of Delaware this weekend. As a team the men placed third overall and the women took fifth.

Togom, who has now won two straight meets, finished in the 8K run in 26:14.36 averaging 5:16.8 per mile. Geoffrey Rutto and Damion Drummond round out the top 20 as Rutto took 18th place and Drummond finished 20th.

Clayton James placed 22nd, Frederick Keter finished 26th, and Christopher Havrilla earned points with his 44th place finish as the Hawks totaled 66 points, just two behind second place Monmouth University. The team totaled a time of 2:20:55.54 and averaged 28:02.39, which topped Monmouth's average.

On the women's side, Slavikova continued her domination as she won her fifth race out of six this season finishing the 6K run in 23:10.44, more than three seconds faster than the second place finisher from Towson University. She averaged a mile ever 6:13.0.

Other top finishers were Pavla Zavoralova, who finished 14th and Evelynn Mendoza, who placed 29th. Deborah Meadows earned points in the 38th position Kori Barrett in 55th position.

As a team they totaled 114 points with a total time of 2:09:32.64 and averaged the run in 25:54.53.

The Cross-Country teams will conclude its season October 30, 2004, as they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships.

 

 

Slavikova is the favorite on the women's side as she has recorded the top two individual times in the conference so far this season. Togom also has the top time posted on the men's side and will look to bring home the championship.
