UMES Men and Women Run Well as They Prepare for MEAC Championships

Newark, DE - On October 18, 2003, the UMES Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams performed at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE. Once again, the Women were led in the 6k Run by Eva Slavikova who placed first overall with a time of 23:31.38, averaging 6:18.6 per mile. Evelynn Mendoza, who ran a time of 25:34.95, and Tasha Century, who ran a time of 25:40.26, both finished among the top twenty runners. Kori Barrett, Alyssa Walker, Deborah Meadows, and Schachia Murphy followed them and contributed to the Women's third place finish.

With a time of 26:06.00 for 8k, Barnabas Togom placed second overall and was followed by Damion Drummond who ran a time of 27:57.04. Marlon Tomlinson and Keter Frederick also ran well and placed among the top twenty runners. David Thibou, Christopher Havrilla, Justin Head, and Antoine Pugh came together to contribute to the Men's second place finish. Both the Men and Women's teams competed against the University of Delaware, Towson University, Lincoln University, and Delaware State University. They will meet the same Hornet squad from Delaware State again next week at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships on October 25, 2003 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
