PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Cross Country team finished in the top five of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship Saturday. The women's team, led by Eunice Jones, placed third overall of the 13 conference schools. Basil Melek took third place as the men finished fourth.

Maryland Eastern Shore had two runners on the women's side place in the top five. Jones took 2nd in a time of 18:47.35, while teammate Cynthia Anais finished 5th in a time of 19:15.13. The pair has led the Hawks all season, with both finishing in the top five in at least four of the team's meets.

Hana Jiraskova finished in 20:46.96, along with Jennel Wade (21:09.00), and Melina Gallas in a time of 21:51.71.

Melek paced the Hawks to a fourth place overall finish with his time of 25:44.60. Zavior Brown finished in the top 15 in 27:16.35. Shadrick Maritim and Donohue Williams also finished in sub-30-minute times, with their finishing times of 28:32.40 and 29:23.23 respectively. Both teams battled the cold rain to place in the top five of the MEAC Championship.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will host the National Collegiate Athletic Association Mid-Atlantic Regional on November 12. Information regarding the NCAA Regional meet can be found on at www.umeshawks.com.
