Sept. 5, 2003 - PRINCESS ANNE, MD- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks are preparing to host the Lid-Lifter Open this Saturday at the UMES Cross-Country Course behind the soccer fields. The event will feature five Division I teams and local Salisbury University with a men's race starting at 10:00 AM and the women's following immediately after.

Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponents Delaware State, Hampton, and Norfolk State will be in attendance as will George Washington University (GWU.) "This is a good opening meet for us," said Head Coach Ernest Barrett. "We will see how the team progresses and especially how they run against MEAC rivals and top competition like GW," said Barrett.

The Hawks look to improve on last season's success as the men finished third and the women's team took fifth place. Both in the top half of the highly competitive MEAC.
