Oct. 5, 2009 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Tamica Thomas (Saint Catherine, Jamaica and junior Amon Kiprotich (Kapsabet, Kenya) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the period ending Oct. 4.
Thomas led the women's cross-country team to a first-place finish over the weekend at the Delaware State Invitational and was first overall in a time of 19:27.47 in the five-kilometer race. The time was her personal best for the season.
The Lady Hawks tallied 21 points to take the event over the host Hornets (53), Coppin State (85), Lincoln (Pa.) (105) and Morgan State (109).
Kiprotich was third on the men's side as the Hawks also captured the team title at DSU. He finished in 15:53.79 on the five-kilometer course.
UMES tallied 49 points followed by Morgan State (51), Delaware State (56), Coppin State (89) and Lincoln (Pa.) (95).
The cross-country teams are off until Oct. 17 when they travel to the Delaware Invitational in Newark, Del. |
