NORFOLK, Va. — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference released their weekly performer of the week honors and University of Maryland Eastern Shore freshman runner Petra Kubesova (Prague, Czech Republic) was distinguished with the honor. This is the first time a UMES cross country student-athlete has been honored with this award this year.

The freshman made history in her first ever race for the Hawks. She finished the race in 21:51.98, which proved to be the fastest time ever recorded by a female student-athlete for a 6k race in the history of the program. Her second-place finish was nearly four minutes faster than the closest Hawk competitor.

Kubesova and the women’s cross country team return to action on Oct. 27 at 9:45 a.m., when they will compete in the MEAC Championships. The meet is set to take place in Princess Anne.
