PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Christina Estebané (El Paso, Texas) and Solomon Kirongo (Nairobi, Kenya) were named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Athlete's of the Week for the period ending October 19.

Estebané finished with 84 assists this past week as she helped the Lady Hawks remain undefeated in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and secure the top spot in the Northern Division.

In the matches against American University and Howard University, Estebané fell just shy of double-doubles, posting an average 27.5 assists and nine digs per match. She currently leads the team in assists (867), aces (49) and digs (266). Estebané is also ranked 10 nationally in aces per set.

Solomon Kirongo was the men's cross country top finisher at the Blue Hen Classic.


The women's volleyball team will face MEAC rival Delaware State in Dover, Del. on October 24 at 6 p.m.

Kirongo was the cross country men's top finisher placing 31st with a time of 27:47.99 at the Blue Hen Classic on Saturday. The men finished ninth in the competition.

The cross country teams prepare to defend their 2007 conference titles as the Hawks host the MEAC championship Saturday, Oct. 25 at 9:30 a.m.
