PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --The University of Maryland Eastern Shore hosts the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday, October 29 in Princess Anne, Maryland. The women's five-kilometer race will begin at 9:45 AM, with the men's eight-kilometer race starting at 10:30 AM.

Maryland Eastern Shore's Eunice Jones holds the top time in the MEAC on a 5K course with her time of 18:06.66. Jones set that time when she finished first place in the Delaware State Invitational.

Jones' teammate, Cynthia Anais, has also assisted in the Hawks success this season. Anais has placed in the top 10 in five meets this season, with her best finish being second place at the Delaware State Invitational in a time of 18:39.35.

On the men's side, Basil Melek and Zavior Brown have been strong performers for UMES. Melek has led the team in most meets, and finished first place at the Delaware State Open and Invitational. His season's best time is 25:23.06 in the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational. Brown had his best finish of the season in the Delaware State Invitational when he took third place in a time of 26:06.

The three-time defending MEAC Men's Champion, Norfolk State, has captured gold medals in three meets this season. Josef Tessema has the conference's best time of 24:43.91 on an 8K course.

Hampton won its first women's title since 2006 last year, and will compete for its fourth title in its history. With a time of 19:07.30, Nichelle Harris has led the Pirates in four 5K races this season.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will also host the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Meet on November 12.
