Nov. 2, 2009 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Juniors Eunice Jones (Lanham, Md.) and Peter Sang (Kapsabet, Kenya) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the period ending Nov. 1.
The pair led the UMES men's and women's cross-country teams to a tie for second and a third-place finish, respectively, in the MEAC Cross Country Championships Saturday at UMES.
Jones was the Lady Hawks' top finisher in fifth with a time of 18:51.24 on the five-kilometer course and Sang was also fifth on the 8K course in 26:16.39.
The women's team (74 points) tied with North Carolina A&T and the men's team (106 points) was beaten out by Delaware State and Norfolk State for the title.
The NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals will be held at UMES on Saturday, Nov. 14 with the men's race beginning at noon and the women running at 1:15 p.m. |
