PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's and women's cross country teams host the 2009 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the UMES Golf Range/Cross Country Course. The men's 10-kilometer race begins at noon and is followed by the women's six-kilometer race at 1:15 p.m. Despite the recent rainy and muddy conditions, the races are still planned to take place. "We are thrilled to be hosting this event," said Director of Athletics Keith Davidson. "We feel like we will do the University, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the NCAA proud. We will put on a great show and invite everyone out to see a beautiful course and an incredible event." UMES is one of nine institutions hosting regionals tomorrow. "It's a great honor and privilege for UMES to be chosen by the NCAA," said cross country/track and field head coach Ernestt Barrett. "These Championships will bring added exposure and revenue to the Princess Anne and Salisbury area. Over 35 universities and colleges will participate in this meet and the Hawk family looks forward to hosting all of the athletes, coaches, staff, families and friends and showing them all what the Eastern Shore has to offer." Over 70 men's and women's teams, such as Princeton, Rutgers, Navy, West Virginia and Maryland, will be in attendance. The Georgetown University men's team won last year's Mid-Atlantic Regional, while the host Princeton University won on the women's side. The event is free and open to the public, but there is a parking fee. The NCAA Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. and is hosted by Indiana State University.
