TWO HAWKS ATTEND NCAA LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Women's basketball senior Talareah Frazier (Gaithersburg, Md.), men's tennis senior Rashad James (Charlotte, N.C.) and Director of Student-Athlete Services Danita Townsend traveled to Atlanta this past weekend to participate with 200 other NCAA Division I student-athletes for leadership development and to partner with local elementary school children, teachers and parents to complete a beautification project at two elementary schools. UMES SCHOLAR-ATHLETES RECOGNIZED FOR WORK IN CLASSROOM

Over 25 student-athletes at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) will be recognized for their academic achievements this year. These standout scholar-athletes achieved at least a 3.5 GPA for both the fall 2008 semester, as well as, their cumulative average. MORE[+]

DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS KICKS OFF SCHOOL YEAR WITH 2008 UMES HAWK OLYMPIC GAMES

As part of the athletic excellence component of the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program at all DI institutions, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore athletic department has contracted with Outrageous Olympics, a company out of Richmond, Virginia, that runs Olympic-style team building activities. This event will allow athletes and athletic personnel a rare opportunity to bond outside of the realm of athletics. With events such as sack races and egg drop, each team will have the opportunity to work together to earn the chance to wear the gold medal. Three teams will be recognized for gold, silver or bronze performances. Come watch Athletic Director Keith Davidson start the games off in Olympic style by lighting the torch! MORE[+]
