2014: Spent most of the season in the starting rotation, with 14 appearances and 10 starts...finished with the second most starts (10) and second most innings (54 2/3) on the Hawks' pitching staff...pitched four innings against Coppin State on March 16th, giving up two runs in four innings en route to the Hawks' first MEAC win...Smith's first individual win came on April 8th at Navy, going five innings of two run ball...pitched his longest outing for his second win, going 8 1/3 innings while giving up three runs.
2013: Worked his way from the bullpen to the rotation, making 16 appearances and seven starts ... improved ERA by five points from last year, finishing with a 5.85 ERA in 52.1 innings and a 1-6 record ... made first appearance on Opening Day against Winthrop (2/15), going three innings with just one run ... went six innings against Buffalo (2/25), allowing just one earned run ... went 5.2 innings of scoreless relief against Norfolk State (4/13) ... earned first MEAC start against Delaware State (4/20), going six innings with two earned runs ... followed up with a seven-inning performance vs. Coppin State (4/27), earning the victory with two runs allowed.
2012: Pitched in 21 games with three starts, throwing 34 innings to lead all UMES newcomers ... struck out 29 batters, second highest strikeout per nine innings rate on the team (7.7) ... finished with 0-6 record and 10.85 ERA ... made debut at Gardner-Webb, throwing an inning with a run allowed with a strikeout (2/18) ... pitched 1.2 innings with an earned run and two strikeouts at Navy (2/22) ... had three-inning scoreless outing vs. Mount St Mary's (3/28) ... appeared in five games as a batter and reserve shortstop ... made debut as pinch hitter vs. Gardner-Webb (2/17) ... had RBI hit by pitch at Coppin State (3/31).
