James Starling enters his first season as the Pitching Coach for the UMES Baseball Team. Starling was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 26th Round of the 1984 MLB Draft.

He pitched two seasons in the New York Yankees organization with the Gulf Coast Yankees (Rookie). His best season was in 1984, where had a 2.43 ERA in 10 appearances. That season he pitched 37 innings, striking out 13 and walking 10. He was 1-4 in 1984 for the Yankees.

Starling was a 1984 graduate of Delaware State University.
