Coach McCabe is in his third year as an assistant coach at UMES. McCabe is responsible for handling the infielders as well as helping Coach Gardner with the hitters. This season McCabe will also be assisting with recruiting in addition to coaching first base for the Hawks. He was a letter winner for the Hawks in 2005. McCabe made a huge impact in the MEAC and at UMES in 2005, his senior year. He received second team All-MEAC honors and second team honors from Black College Baseball.. He led the Hawks in every major category: batting average (.363), slugging percentage ( .625), on-base percentage (.436), hits (58), doubles (16) and homeruns (8). He was second on the team in runs scored (23), RBI's (33) and walks (16). McCabe played baseball at Delaware Valley College before joining the Hawks. In 2003 McCabe earned third team All-American honors as well as first team honors in both the Freedom Conference and the Mid-Atlantic Region. He batted .360 and set school single records with eight triples, 13 homeruns and 63 RBI's. He led the conference in triples, homeruns, total bases and slugging percentage. "Brandon helps us bridge the gap between the old and the new. He has a good feel for the game on the field and a strong yearning to help others play the game at the college level," said Head Coach William Gardner. "He truly wants to learn how to coach at this level and that's what this program needs - people willing to work hard and go the extra mile to make things better - one step at a time," added Gardner. Coach McCabe obtained his bachelor's degree in Agriculture from UMES and is working towards completing his master's degree in the same field this spring. He currently resides in Millsboro, Del. |
