Schirmer, who is a transfer student from Delaware Tech, will split time with Justin Hoban behind the plate. "Schirmer is a very experienced catcher and will help the young pitchers with both their mechanics and their confidence," said Rodriguez. "He will be a nice addition to this team as he will provide us some options behind the plate and with the pitching staff."

Schirmer, who earned four varsity letters in football and baseball at Sussex Technical High School, was a All-Conference first team selection in 2001 and 2002...Was selected to the All-State first team in 2002...As a junior he hit .516 as he set school records with 11 doubles and 21 steals...Played club baseball at Delaware Technical Community College (Georgetown, Del.)...First team selection to the All-Region team in 2003 as he hit .324...His team was 2nd in the region in 2003 and then swept the region in 2004, the first time ever and ended up second in districts...Was awarded the VICA award in 2001 and 2002.
