Princess Anne, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (UMES) (2-9) dropped a double header pair to the visiting Mount of Mt. Saint Mary's College on Saturday. That is the Hawk's sixth consecutive loss in just four days.

Despite pitching on just three days rest UMES game one starter Leon Tilghman had a great outing, going the complete seven innings and allowing just four runs, only tow of which were earned, and no walks. His counterpart, Justin Davis also allowed no walks for Mt. Saint Mary's and allowed just three hits and one unearned run.

Greg Cathell, Robert Benak, and Kaz Beverly collected a hit apiece. The lone UMES run came in the fifth inning when Beverly hit a two-pout single through the right side. He then scored when catcher Butch Mills reached on an error by the centerfielder. The Mount scored twice in the third and fifth innings for their four runs. They banged out eight hits and took advantage of five Hawk errors to win.

Third baseman Joseph Kotula was the star of game one for Mt. Saint Mary's ad he went 3-4 with a run and two RBIs. Centerfielder John Digirolamo was 2-4 with two runs.

Dereck Casper took the hill for UMES in game two, but like Tilghman, was pitching on three days rest and could only manage four and one third innings. He allowed five runs, four earned and gave up three hits and six walks. He fell to 0-4 on the season. Terrell Harris and Dwayne Wallace relieved him but they were unable to contain the Mount offense. Harris allowed five earned runs and six walks in tow innings of work.

Brian Perkins won for the visitors working five innings allowing three hits and one earned run. That run came in the fifth when Benak doubled down the left field line, moved to third on a wild pitch, and was sacrificed home by Kaz Beverly. Chad Wolfe would take over for Perkins but UMES got to him quickly as he only lasted one and two thirds innings giving up five hits, three earned runs and a walk.

Two runs came in the sixth as centerfielder Joel Maher singled to left. Maher went to second on a throwing error by the pitcher as Mayta forced him into a fielder's choice. UMES had runners on second and third with only one down after Cathell hit an infield shot where the only play was at first. Beank got his second hit of the game and two RBIs driving them both home on a single to short. The Hawks added one run in the seventh as Beverly led-off with a single up the middle and was followed by a Tilghman shot to right center, his second on the day. Catcher Andy Frey reached on fielder's choice that moved Beverly to third but forced Tilghman out at second. A Mayta walk loaded the bases and Cathell drove in a run on his single to left center. Mt. Saint Mary's was forced to make a pitching change as Steve Sansone came in to close out the Hawks and end the game at 10-4 in favor of the Mount.

The Mount recorded ten runs on seven hits, plating one in the third and fourth innings, two in the seventh and a game breaking six in the fifth. Jason Weszka went 2-4 with a run and two RBIs, Digirolamo again had a solid game, going 2-3 with three runs and an RBI, Jim Jefferson was 2-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Adam Schlenoff went 1-2 with a run and a pair of RBIs.

UMES out hit the Mount eight to seven but could not string them together. Bobby Shaw, Maher, Cathell, Benak, Beverly, and Tilghman all collected hits.

The Hawks take on this same Mt. Saint Mary's team on Sunday with a single nine-inning game beginning at 1:00 pm at Hawk's Stadium.
