PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Baseball team (2-28-1) dropped a pair to the Aggies of North Carolina A & T State (NCAT) University today at Hawks Stadium. The Hawks were done in by errors in game one, falling 11-3 and entered a pitcher's duel in game two 2-1. In the nightcap, the Hawks got an outstanding game from senior pitcher Graylon Kitchens who pitched a seven-inning gem. He allowed seven hits and two runs, allowing only one walk while picking up the loss. He was matched pitch for pitch by Aggie starter Ian Digiorgio who got a complete game win, allowing five hits and one run with no walks. The game's first run was scored in the fourth inning when the Hawk's Rob Benak (1-3, 1 run) hit a two out double to left. A Bobby Shaw (2-3, 1 RBI) single through the left side plated him to give UMES a 1-0 lead. NCAT tied it in the fifth inning when Joshua McKnight scored on a double by catcher Ben Teasley. They scored the winning run in the sixth when Jeremy Jones touched home plate on a Duron Legrande single up the middle, putting a damper on a solid Hawk defensive and pitching effort. In game one, a nine-inning affair, starter Sean Davis went eight innings, surrendering nine runs on nine hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Toby Middleton got the Aggie win getting a complete game with five hits, three runs, one earned, three walks and six Ks. North Carolina A & T got two runs in the fourth, eighth, and ninth innings, plating four in the fifth and one in the first.
UMES plated their first runs in the fifth when Anthony Jackson (1-4, 1 run) reached on a two base error by the shortstop. Leon Tilghman (2-3, 1 run, 1 RBI) tripled to right center and plated Jackson. He scored on a passed ball.
The other Hawk run came in the sixth when Joel Maher (0-3, 1 run) scored on a Benak (1-3, 1 RBI) single up the middle. In game one for the Aggies, Eugene Burnett, Marcus Mack, Jones, Charlie Gamble, and Legrande all collected two hits apiece. The same two teams meet again tomorrow in a nine-inning affair at 1:00pm at Hawks Stadium. Admission is free. |
