GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (4-23, 1-10) was swept by North Carolina A&T (14-20, 7-4) in a evening Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference double-header, 17-5 and 19-2. Charlie Gamble, who is the reigning MEAC Player of the Week, led the way for the Aggies as he belted a homerun in each game and hit for the cycle in game one.

In game one, the Fighting Hawks wasted an early opportunity to put some runs on the board as they left the bases full in the first inning without getting a run home. On the other hand, N.C. A&T didn't waste its opportunity as Gamble hit a two-out two-run homerun to left, his seventh of the season.

Trailing 2-0 in the second inning, UMES once again put two runners into scoring position as Bernie Stratchko singled and then with one out, Pete Mayta doubled down the right field line. This time, however, a two-out single by Rob Benak brought both runners home and tied the game at two apiece.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Aggies regained the lead as they scored two unearned runs on only one hit. UMES chipped away at the two run deficit as Benak collected his third single of the game in only the fourth inning scoring Mayta and moving Joel Maher to second. With one out, Brandon McCabe loaded the bases with a check swing "excuse me" infield single and Craig Munch tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Aggies regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth as the top of the order collected four straight hits and then a two-base error with two-outs plated the third run of the inning. N.C. A&T took a 7-4 lead despite only scoring four earned runs and collecting only seven hits.

UMES quickly rallied as the first three Hawk batters reached base leaving the bases load and no one out for the heart of the order. However, a strikeout and two fly balls plated only one run, leaving two stranded.

Trailing, 7-5 in the sixth UMES starter Sean Davis (2-5) was replaced by Butch Mills. Davis went five innings giving up seven runs, four earned on seven hits. He struck out three and walked three. The Aggies led off the sixth with a double and a single to center field off of Mills and eventually scored two runs on the Fighting Hawks third error of the game and a ground-out to short.

Gamble finished off the maroon and gray in the eighth inning as his RBI-triple gave him the cycle as he recorded the homerun in the first, single in the third, double in the fifth and the triple in the eighth. He went 4-5, with five RBI and three runs scored in the 17-5 victory.

Aggies pitcher M. Hauff went the distance giving up five runs on 12 hits. However he struck out a career-high15 batters improving to 5-1 on the season.

In the second game of the evening, UMES jumped out to a 1-0 lead as McCabe took the first pitch he saw and rocked it easily over both outfield fences of War Memorial Stadium that stand about 30 feet high and over 320 feet away from home plate.

However, the Aggies quickly responded with a two-run double, two bases loaded walks, a fielders choice RBI, and two errors in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-1 lead on only two Aggie hits.

The route continued in the third as P. Brewington drove a ball out of the park for a grand slam putting the Aggies up 11-1 on only five hits. N.C. A&T added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth, highlighted by Gamble's second homerun of the day.

UMES will return home where they will play eight of their next nine games starting with Mount Saint Mary's on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 starting at 1:00 p.m.
