NORTH CAROLINA A&T TAKES DOUBLHEADER, 14-3, 12-5, SUNDAY

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina A&T swept the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team, 14-3 and 12-5, in a doubleheader at War Memorial Stadium Sunday.
North Carolina A&T used big fifth innings to claim the doubleheader. With UMES trailing, 5-2, in the opener, the Aggies scored six runs in the fifth to break open the game. In the nightcap they scored eight times in the fifth to go up 12-2.
Macklin led N.C. A&T for the second day in a row, batting 4-for-5 with three runs, a home run, a triple and two RBI, while three other Aggies finished with four hits.
Bryan Chaikowsky (Bethlehem, Pa.) hit 4-for-7 with two runs three RBI and his fifth home run of the season.
In all, N.C. A&T (11-23, 5-6 MEAC) rapped out 29 hits and 26 runs, including home runs by Macklin, Luke Tendler and Dario Little. UMES (5-30, 4-7) also received two homers in the second game from Nick Wiggins (Littleton, Colo.) in addition to Chaikowsky'a bomb.
UMES jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on the first game. Chaikowsky ripped his sixth triple of the season to left center and came in when Nick Oelker uncorked a wild pitch with Luis Mena (Cape Coral, Fla.) batting.
Macklin belted a two-run home run in the second to give North Carolina A&T the lead. Kelvin Freeman hit an infield single to shortstop prior to Macklin's homer to center field.
After UMES tied the game with a Chaikowsky RBI single to right field in the third, the Aggies played long ball again in their half of the inning. Marquis Riley took a Tyler Witte (Westminster, Md.) pitch out to right center for a two-run shot and, two batters later; Tendler added a solo homer to right for a 5-2 advantage.
North Carolina A&T blew the game open with six runs in the fifth, sending 11 players to the plate and collecting five hits to make it 11-2. Mark Nales walked with the bases loaded, while Carvelle Copeland and Andre McKoy each had RBI singles in the frame to knock Witte from the game in favor of Zach Saca (Elk Grove, Calif.).
Copeland then scored on a passed ball and Dario Little added another run-scoring single.
Nick Oelker (4-2) pitched a complete game, scattering five hits, two walks and two earned runs while fanning 10 batters. Witte lasted 4.1 innings and gave up 11 hits and 11 runs (10 earned in the loss. He struck out two and walked four.
N.C. A&T led, 2-0, after one inning. Little had an RBI infield single with two outs and Tendler followed with a run-scoring double to right center.
UMES cut the lead in half in the top of the second on the first of Wiggins' two homers on the day. He rocketed the first pitch from Brent Moore over the left-field wall.
The Aggies scored twice in the bottom of the inning on one hit and two errors to take a 4-1 lead. With runners on first and second with two outs, McKoy reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, scoring Copeland and Macklin.
Consecutive doubles from Byron Campbell (Waldorf, Md.) and Shaquille Bagwell (Atlantic, Va.) cut the deficit to two at 4-2 in the top of the fifth before the decisive eight-run bottom of the inning. A two-run homer by Little and a two run single from Riley highlighted the frame.
Chaikowsky and Wiggins each homered in the sixth to cut the lead to 12-4. Moore (2-5) went 5.1 innings, surrendering six hits and four earned runs for the win. Matt Witte (Westminster, Md.) fell to 2-5 in four innings. He allowed right hits and 10 runs (six earned, striking out two and walking three.
UMES is back in action Tuesday at Navy. First pitch is 4 p.m., at Max Bishop Stadium.
