MORGANTOWN, W.VA - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (6-39) dropped the first game of the double-header to West Virginia University (18-23), who scored four runs in the bottom of the final inning for the come-from-behind victory. The draining loss then led to a 23-1 pounding to close out the double-header sweep

In the first game, UMES flipped the script on West Virginia as they scored four runs with two outs in the top of the second inning on five hits and a walk. After getting the first two outs, Mountaineers starter Kenny Durst gave up a double to Morgan Schirmer and then Greg Cathell, Joel Maher, Eric Gaines and Brandon McCabe all singled home runs for the 4-0 advantage.

UMES added a single run in the third thanks to a West Virginia fielding error with two-outs that allowed Ronald Quick to stroll home.

On the mound for the Fighting Hawks, Brad Powell made his best start of the season going four and a third inning before he was removed from the game due to a minor injury. Dusty Webster replaced Powell and continued to dominate the Mountaineers until the bottom of the seventh.

In the last inning, West Virginia scored four runs highlighted by Stan Posluszny game-winning two-out two-run double to right field.

In game two, both teams scored an early run in the first, but the Mountaineers blew the game open in the second with five runs, highlighted by Justin Jenkins three-run homerun.

Trailing 6-1, the Hawks threatened with bases loaded in the third, but Earlee Corbin could not deliver as WVU starter Matt Yurish struck Corbin. The Mountaineers then added six runs in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a bases clearing triple by Tyler Kuhn and then a three-run bomb by Posluszny.

WVU added two in the fourth, four in the sixth and five in the sixth as they closed out the afternoon double-header with the dominating 23-1 victory. UMES, short on pitchers, utilized game one starting catcher Morgan Schirmer on the mound for an inning.
