MOREHEAD, KY - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore dropped a weekday double-header to Morehead State University, 9-1 and then 13-12 in two seven-inning games. The Fighting Hawks scored five runs to overcome a 12-7 deficit, only to fall in the final inning.

In game two, the Hawks took an early leads of 4-0 and 7-4, but a huge eight-run inning by the Eagles gave them a 12-7 lead headed into the sixth inning of a seven-inning game.

UMES chipped away at the five run lead with three in the sixth highlighted by RBI-doubles from Brandon McCabe and Ronald Quick. In the final inning, the Fighting Hawks tied the game with two-out hits by Greg Cathell and McCabe.

However, in the bottom of the seventh Morehead State scored an unearned run on only one hit to complete the sweep.

In game two, McCabe was 3-5 with three doubles, two runs scored and three RBI's. Nine Hawk batters recorded hits in the game, eight scored runs and seven drove in runs in the disappointing loss.

In the first game, Morehead State utilized home-field advantage with two of its seven homeruns in the two games. Five of the homeruns traveled over the very short fence in right-centerfield. The wall is said to measure only 302 feet from home-plate but seems to play and look much shorter than that.

Pete Mayta started for the Fighting Hawks and pitched well over the first four innings as he allowed only two runs on three hits. However, in the fifth and sixth inning, Morehead State plate seven runs on four extra base hits.

UMES scored its lone run in the sixth as McCabe double, his first of four on the day, and then scored on an RBI-single by Cathell.
