The UMES baseball team begins its 2004 season with doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday afternoon against the Savannah State Tigers. The games will mark the Hawks' debut of new head coach Bobby Rodriquez, who came to UMES last summer after spending multiple seasons with the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Rodriquez is not the only new face in the UMES dugout. The team has added 13 new players to its 24-man roster, coming off a season in which it won only five games in 2003. The new head man is hoping to bring a winning attitude to the baseball program.

"I'm excited for the season to begin," Rodriquez said. "We think we can do some really good things here this spring, and it's finally time to get it going."
