PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Baseball Team will have to wait a longer for their 2007 home opener. The Hawks, scheduled to make their home debut this weekend against Savannah State, have cancelled their weekend series against the Tigers due to poor field conditions.

"With all the low temperatures the ground was frozen, it wasn't a matter of moisture, we can dry a field, but we can't unfreeze it," said Head Coach William Gardner.

The weather has also affected other area schools as Delaware State cancelled their scheduled series against Buffalo this weekend. Nearby Salisbury University cancelled their game scheduled for today, February 16th as well.

UMES will not make up the series with the Tigers but will see them again on March 22nd for a doubleheader in Savannah as regularly scheduled.

The Hawks' home opener will be Tuesday, February 20, 2007 when they host Mt. Saint Mary's for a double header with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
