PRINCESS ANNE, MD- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Fighting Hawk Baseball Team has been forced to postpone their first three dates of the season due to field conditions and weather related problems.
The Hawks were supposed to open their season with a double-header against the University of Pittsburgh in Hawks Stadium yesterday, February 12, 2003 but had to cancel due to the poor infield conditions. They were hoping to play two games today against the Panthers (instead of the one originally scheduled) but again encountered field problems.
UMES has also postponed its double header against Mt. Saint Mary's, scheduled for Sunday, February 13, to a date in March. The schedule will be updated on the Hawk's website, www.umes.edu/athletics, when it is officially changed. This change is due to the pending inclement weather that the area is supposed to receive. "It is easier for us to reschedule now and not make Mt. Saint Mary's drive all that way to possible conditions that would prohibit us from playing," said Head Coach Kirkland Hall.
