Virginia Beach, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Mike Roberts was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Rookie of the Week today for the week ending March 19, 2006. Roberts earned two saves last week as the Hawks took two of three games from conference foe Delaware State.

Roberts (P, 5-11, Fr., Belair, Md.) recorded two saves, while not allowing an earned run in 2.2 innings of work in two wins over conference opponent Delaware State last week. It is the first MEAC series win for the Hawks since 1995-96.

On the season Roberts has earned three saves in 16 and one third innings of work with 12 strike outs in nine appearances.

UMES had several other solid outings in the past week with Justin Hoban and Dustin Longchamps being listed among the conference's other top performers.

Hoban averaged .417 had five hits, three RBIs, two doubles and a triple to help lead the Hawks over Delaware State for their first MEAC series win in over 10 years.

Longchamps went 1-0 last week pitching 7.2 innings with a 1.17 ERA and earned his second career win and his first career MEAC victory.

The MEAC also named North Carolina A & T's Charlie Gamble the player of the week and Michael Hauff the pitcher of the week.

Gamble (3B, 6-6, Jr., Pleasant Garden, N.C.) has hit safely in 16 out of his last 17 games, while averaging .360 for the week as the Aggies went 4-2. He posted nine hits, five RBIs, two doubles and two triples as N.C. A&T defeated non-conference opponents UAB, Appalachian State and Savannah St.

Hauff (P, 6-1, Sr., Asheboro, N.C.) pitched a complete game allowing only five hits, two earned runs and two walks, while striking out 15 in a win over non-conference opponent UAB. In his last two starts, he has struck out a combined total of 26 batters.
