NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference released its weekly honors and University of Maryland Eastern Shore freshman catcher Justin Dattilo (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named Rookie of the Week, it was announced today. The award covers the period of March 10-16. The honor is the first for UMES and Dattilo this year.

Dattilo hit .530 last week in five games to lead the Hawks to a 3-2 record. He was 9-for-16 on the week with seven runs and six RBI. The freshman leads the Hawks on the year in batting average (.318) and RBI (14).  Dattilo has also started 14 games for the team behind the plate and enjoyed his finest game of the week in UMES’ 14-3 victory over Coppin State on Sunday, where he went 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.

Additionally, UMES senior outfielder Byron Campbell (Waldorf, Md.) and freshman pitcher Jesse Stinnett (Madison Heights, Va.) were listed in the “Other Top Performers” section after their performances last week.

Dattilo and the Hawks resume play this weekend when they travel to Norfolk State for a three-game set. The teams will compete in a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. on Saturday.
