MEAC Baseball Weekly Awards - April 2

NORFOLK, Va. -- A few days after coming just short of a no-hitter and of history, Tyler Witte has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Witte (Westminster, Md.) started the first contest against Coppin State over the weekend, allowing just one hit and an unearned run in a complete game 18-1 victory. He struck out nine Eagles and held Coppin State without a hit for the first 5.1 innings in the game. It was his first complete game of his UMES career and first win of the season.

This is Witte's first ever conference weekly award and first one for UMES this year.

In addition, Jeffrey Fleetwood (Delmar, Del.) and Joshua James (Milford, Del.) were recognized as Other Top Performers. Fleetwood hit .375 during the week, driving in seven runs and scoring five more. James, nominated for Rookie of the Week, went 2-for-3 in game one against Coppin State, scoring twice.

Witte, Fleetwood, James and the Hawks will travel to Virginia tomorrow to take on William & Mary at 7 p.m.
