PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Juniors Eunice Jones (Lanham, Md.) and Bryan Chaikowsky (Bethlehem, Pa.) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the period ending May 9.

Jones, a middle-distance runner on the track and field team, won both the 800- and 1,500-meter events at the MEAC Championships over the weekend at Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T. Jones' victories paced the Lady Hawks to a fifth-place finish overall with 61 points.

Jones won the 800 in 2:19.52 and 1,500 in 4:37.37, respectively.

Chaikowsky, a designated hitter on the baseball team, helped UMES to a 3-2 week, with all three victories coming against North Carolina Central at Hawks Stadium Saturday and Sunday.

Chaikowsky hit .533 (8-for-15) with 10 RBIs six runs scored, two triples, a home run, a double, five walks and three steals. He also slugged 1.067 and got on base at a .609 clip.

Chaikowsky's best performance of the week came in a 12-2 win over NCCU in Game 1 of a doubleheader Saturday. He was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, five runs driven in, a walk and a steal.

UMES (8-40, 3-15 MEAC) close out the regular season on the road at Old Dominion Tuesday at 3 p.m., before the MEAC Tournament May 20-23 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
