STEPHEN BULL NAMED TO 2014 MEAC BASEBALL ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
May 20, 2014
NORFOLK, Va. – The season may be over for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team, but the awards continue to pile up, as the Hawks saw senior outfielder Stephen Bull (Millsboro, Del.) named to the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball All-Tournament Team on Monday. He was one of the lone position players on the team and was one of four MEAC North student-athletes recognized.
Bull picks up the award after going 4-for-7 in the MEAC Tournament last week. He opened with a 1-for-3 performance in UMES’ 4-0 loss to Bethune-Cookman, where he walked once and had four putouts. The senior concluded his collegiate career with a 3-for-4 effort with three runs, two walks and four putouts in the Hawks’ 10-5 loss to North Carolina Central.
The award is the eighth of the season for Bull, including two national player of the week awards and three awards in the MEAC. He was named NCAA Player of the Week and Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball in April. He was a MEAC Player of the Week recipient and ECAC Corvais Player of the Week earlier this season. The senior was also named to the All-MEAC First Team last week, UMES Baseball MVP and was selected as the 2013-14 UMES Male Athlete of the Year.
He finished the season with team-highs in runs (41), hits (68) and doubles (12). Bull batted a .349 clip with a 12-for-18 effort in stolen bases. He carried a hit streak of 25 games earlier in the year and reached base in 33 straight contests. The local product was 10-for-10 over a four game stretch, four hits off the all-time NCAA Division I record of 14. He concludes his career as No. 2 in UMES history in single-season hits (68) and No. 3 in career hits (189).
