May 21, 2007 NORFOLK, Va. - The baseball season may be over for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) after a defeat to Delaware State in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament but that does not stop the awards from continuing to roll in. On the final day of the tournament, where Bethune-Cookman University had to play two games against North Carolina A & T to win their ninth title in ten tries, UMES picked up three individual awards. Justin Hoban (Selbyville, Del./Delaware Valley Coll.), Dustin Longchamps (Greene, Maine/Central Maine Comm. Coll.) and Joel Gonzalez (Beltsville, Md./Prince George's Comm. Coll.) all were named to the MEAC's All-Tournament Team. The three selections match BC-U for the most players on the 13 man team. For Hoban, it is his second straight year earning All-Tournament Team honors without an All-MEAC nod. The senior catcher was named as a pre-season All-MEAC selection by Baseball America. In three games Hoban tallied five hits, three runs and three RBI with a double. Hoban wrapped up the year batting .283 while tallying 54 hits, 13 for doubles and a team leading 34 RBI (tied). He was second in slugging percentage (.377), hits, at bats (191), and doubles. Longchamps, while only seeing action in one game of the tournament pitched a gem, working eight innings against Florida A&M to earn a win over the second seeded Rattlers. He allowed just six hits and three walks while striking out seven. He allowed two runs, neither of which were earned. Longchamps finished his season as the team leader in wins (4), games started (16), innings pitched (112), strike outs (101), and opponents batting average (.253). Gonzalez, the only Hawk to earn All-MEAC honors this season tallied four hits while posting a pair of runs and three RBI with a two doubles. He was also the only MEAC player on two national Player of the Year lists. Overall he hit .378 for the year with a team leading 34 RBI (tied), 68 hits, 35 runs (tied), 14 doubles, slugging percentage (.483) and on base percentage (.474). The Hawks finished the season 10-45 overall with a 5-13 MEAC mark. They lose five seniors that include Hoban, Longchamps, Eric Gaines, James Walls and Kevin Hillenburg.
