PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Head baseball coach Will Gardner announced today the addition of pitching coach Zach Farry to the Hawk staff. Farry will join the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) baseball staff for the 2009-10 campaign.

"I'm excited about adding Zach to our staff," said Gardner. "I think he brings a lot of knowledge to the program and he'll be someone to whom our staff can relate. He's been through the trenches and knows what it takes to be successful at the college level."

A native of Charlotte, N.C., Farry was a teammate of current Hawk assistant coach Eric Armstrong at Francis Marion University. Farry earned a B.B.A. in marketing while with the Patriots and was a Dean's List student.

During his time at Francis Marion, Farry established save records in both his junior and senior years for the Patriots. He tallied 13 saves in his final campaign, all were two innings or better, and recorded a 4-1 record, pitching in a team high 28 games and recording over 55 innings. Farry carried a 3.58 ERA that season while opponents hit just .277 against him.

He was named an honorable mention All-American in his senior season by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He also garnered several other accolades during his final season, including the Rawlings/American Baseball Coach's Association All-South Atlantic Region First-Team, the Daktronics Inc. All-South Atlantic Region First-Team and a Second-Team All-Peach Belt Conference selection. Farry was also named to the South Carolina All-Star Baseball Team, an honor for collegiate baseball players across the state, regardless of division.

Farry also had a standout high school career, helping Independence High School advance to the 4-A state baseball championship. That season he was 10-3 along with a 1.80 ERA. He was named all-conference and all-state that same year.

Farry will take the reins of an improved UMES pitching staff in August in a volunteer capacity, joining Armstrong and Gardner in the dugout.
