PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) athletics department countdown continues with baseball’s Stephen Bull (Millsboro, Del.) and Byron Campbell (Waldorf, Md.) earning National Player of the Week honors.

In mid-April, Bull was awarded two different National Player of the Week honors, one by Louisville Slugger and another from NCAA.com. The achievement was the first in the history of the UMES baseball program.

Bull’s accolades came after he went 15-for-22 (.682) across a five-game span. The senior was four hits shy of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I record for most consecutive hits after he was 10-for-10 over the course of four games.

During that same span, he went a perfect 5-for-5 in a performance against Navy and led the Hawks to their first sweep of the Midshipmen in program history.

Bull finished his collegiate career third on the all-time hits list (189) and was named the 2013-14 UMES Male Athlete of the Year. Other notable awards included selections to the 2014 All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) First Team, the 2014 College Sports Madness All-MEAC Tournament Team, and an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Corvias Player of the Week nod.

Nearly two weeks later, Campbell was named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Player of the Week. The honor came a day after he was named MEAC Player of the Week.

The senior hit .591 over a six-game stretch, including two homers at Delaware State University (DSU). His effort helped the Hawks sweep a twinbill against the Hornets, the first from a Hawk outfit versus DSU in over a decade.

Campbell finished his Hawk career second on the all-time hits list (197). Along with Bull, the Waldorf-native was selected to the 2013-14 All-MEAC First Team and the 2014 College Sports Madness All-MEAC First Team. Campbell was also named an ECAC Corvias Player of the Week.

In two weeks, both Hawks combined for seven player of the week honors, including three from the MEAC.
