PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - For the upcoming 2012 season, the Hawks voted on team captains. The team selected seniors Franklin Armstrong (Trenton, N.J.) and Jacob Foreman (Little Orleans, Md.) and junior Tre-von Johnson (East New Market, Md.).

"These three young men have shown quality leadership ability in the time they have been involved in our program," said coach Will Gardner. "We've been able to watch Franklin and Tre-von mature through our system over the past two years. It's nice to see them be able to take some ownership in the development of some of our younger student-athletes."

Gardner continued by recognizing that both Armstrong and Johnson were products of the UMES system. "Jake has taken a lot of responsibility upon himself through last spring and this fall," Gardner said. "The guys recognized that and, thus, rewarded him for the example he has been setting."

UMES is set to begin their season on Friday, February 17th with a three-game series with Gardner-Webb on the road.

"It's a long ride and our team needs to have some strong leaders to help mold our very young team. It's going to take all of us to challenge each other every day we're on the field, regardless of the title."
