Princess Anne, MD - The UMES Baseball team played, what they hope is the first of many to come, an alumni game on Saturday, November 1 with the first pitch coming at 12 noon. Head Coach Bobby Rodriguez wants alumni to be involved with the team this season and saw this as an opportunity to get things started. It was a big success as the current Hawks rallied to win 10-8.

Thrirteen former Hawks returned to the nest to be coached by former Hawk Skipper Kaye Pinhey. They included former standouts Bryan Barnes who now works for the Baltimore Orioles organization and Chuck Pickard who plays professionally in the Independant League.

The current Hawks had a strong second inning scoring four runs but then allowed the alumni to have a five run fifth inning. While Head Coach Bobby Rodriguez gave everyone a chance to play it was the current Hawks rallying in the ninth inning to score two to give the Hawks the win. Joel Maher, Butch Mills, Anthony Jackson, Kaz Beverly, Greg Cathell, Pete Mayta and others collected hits for the Hawks. Alumni Diesel Hammett and Mike Revell hit long balls for the cause with Hammett hitting dingers in the fourth and fifth innings.

"It was a great outing for all involved," said Head Coach Bobby Rodriguez. "I am pleased with how well the game went and hope we started a tradition that we can carry one for some time to come. I want the alumi and the community, especially the students, to come out and support us when we kick off our season in February," he added.
