G. Jamal Brown is in his second season at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore as the Associate Head Coach.

"Jamal is an excellent assistant coach," said Head Coach Frankie Allen. "He has outstanding people skills, which I think are first and foremost, but he is also a very knowledgeable basketball coach."

Brown brings a wealth of knowledge to the program. His coaching career began at his alma mater South Carolina State University where he was a standout player before becoming assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator from 1997-2003. Brown was responsible for recruiting four South Carolina State Players of the Year.

He then moved on to become the Assistant Coach and recruiting coordinator for Tennessee State University for two seasons starting in 2003-04 where he worked closely with the team's Academic Advisor in ensuring 80 percent of the team had a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Brown then returned to S.C. State to fill the head coaching roll for the 2006-07 season before joining UMES.

Brown has gained a reputation as a highly successful recruiter. He recruited several players that have garnered conference honors. With their help, Brown participated in three NCAA tournaments as an Assistant Coach (1998, 2000 & 2003).

Off the court, Brown is very focused on keeping student-athletes involved in community activities, such as feeding the homeless, after school mentoring, free weekend basketball clinics and visiting the different area children hospitals.

Brown is an active member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Black Coaches Association and Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc.

Brown received his Bachelor's Degree in Marketing in from South Carolina State University in 1997, and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Sports Administration from Tennessee State University. Brown and his wife of eight years, Lola, have a seven-year-old son, Gilbert.
