ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The South Carolina State University Bulldogs (5-9, 3-1 MEAC) posted a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win on Monday, defeating the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (2-13, 0-4 MEAC) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center, 61-49. South Carolina State was led by Jason Flagler with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Brian Mason with 12 points. Maryland Eastern Shore was paced by sophomore guard Jesse Brooks, who went 5-10 from the floor for 13 points, and sophomore forward Aleksandar Popovic grabbed 11 rebounds. S.C. State went on an 8-0 run in the first half to open up an eight point lead, 24-16, on a jumper by Dale Carn. UMES then answered with a 3-pointer by Brooks that cut the lead to 24-19 at the 3:25 mark. S.C. State then put together another impressive run sparked by a layup by Mason and a 3-pointer by senior guard Derek Davis to give the Bulldogs a 32-19 lead at the 2:00 mark. UMES answered on a layup by Brooks with 14 seconds left to end the half at 32-21. The second half was all S.C. State as senior guard Travis Jones opened up the period with a 3-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 35-21 lead at the 19:42 mark.
