PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Playing in their first home game in over a month, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Fighting Hawks dropped their last non-conference match up of the year, losing to Brown, 87-38.

UMES (1-12) never had the lead and trailed by as many as 24 points in the first period, turning the ball over five times in the first five minutes of the half.

A jumper by Luke Ruscoe gave Brown (7-7) a 13-5 lead at 15:57. From there the Bears went on a 13-2 run over the next seven minutes, a span in which the Hawks missed nine shots and committed four fouls.

Brown held a 26-7 lead at 8:37 when a trey from Corey Brown (Ruthville, VA/Mott CC) capped off a 9-4 UMES run over the next three minutes. However the run was short lived, as the Bears played good defense and pulled down eight rebounds in the final four minutes, leading to a 22 point lead for Brown going into the locker room.

Jason Forte scored 14 to lead all scorers at the half. Jareem Dowling (St. Croix, US Virgin Islands/Cecil CC) had seven to lead UMES, while Brown chipped in with six.

The Bears ran away with the lead in the second half, starting the period on a 13-3 run. Brown held a 32 point lead at 15:44 when a three point basket by Aly Samabaly (Bamako, Mali/Duquesne) gave the Hawks the momentum to mount a run of their own, cutting the Bear advantage to 26 at 12:32.

Brown answered back with a trey from Keenan Jeppesen at 11:22. The Bears ran away with the lead from there, outscoring UMES 20-2 to close out the game. The Hawks managed to hit only one basket in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Forte, who moved to sixth on Brown's all time scoring list, scored a game-high 25 points in the victory. Brown scored 11 to lead UMES.

The Hawks will travel to Virginia for their next two games, facing Hampton on Monday, January 17 and Norfolk State on Wednesday, January 19.
