Box Score

HAMPTON, VA - Junior Tim Parham recorded his fourth double-double in his last five games as he led the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Fighting Hawks (UMES) with 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. However, Hampton University was able to overcome a poor performance at the free-throw line behind 31 points from Bruce Brown to extend UMES's losing streak to 11-games as UMES fell 80-54.

In 37 minutes of action Parham was able to dominate under the boards as he recorded his fourth double-double over the last five contests in the first-half alone as he had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the first 20 minutes. Of course he had very little opportunity to grab rebounds off of Brown's misses as the Pirates leading scorer shot 15-19 from the floor.

Brown, along with the rest of the Pirates struggled from the free-throw line as they converted on only 11-of-25 chances. The Fighting Hawks (1-13, 0-5) could not do much better as they only shot 10-of-22 from the charity stripe. Hampton's (6-9, 4-2) performance from the free-throw line was even worse considering Rashad West went 5-5 from the line, meaning the rest of his team went 6-20.

West finished the game in double-figures with 12 points in only 16 minutes of play. Joining Parham in double-figures for the Hawks was Jareem Dowling with 12 points. Unfortunately, Dowling finished the contest in the locker room as he was hit with a technical foul and ejected from the floor for some aggressive play under the boards.

As a team, UMES out rebounded the Pirates 38-22, but 27 turnovers combined with 23 assists by Hampton allowed Brown to find his chances down underneath the basket as all his points where in the paint.

UMES will look to end its losing streak and earn its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory as they travel to Norfolk State on Wednesday, January 19th. The game will follow the women's contest with the tip to be at approximately 8:00 p.m.
